Gates, the richest man in the world and chairman
and chief software architect of Microsoft
Corporation, during his maiden visit in
Bangladesh on December 5, 2005 unveiled his plan
for expanding investment in the country's
nascent knowledge-based economy with information
technology at its centre in Bangladesh.
He showed his interest in expanding investment
when he, accompanied by his wife Melinda Gates,
met the Prime Minister of Bangladesh at her
office.
"We will come up in more areas and take
advantage of prevailing investment environment
here," he was quoted as saying during the
meeting.
Microsoft will signed a memorandum of
understanding with the Ministry of Education,
Bangladesh to train over 10,000 teachers and
200,000 students in information technology in
Bangladesh in next three years in partnership
with the ministry and has donated US$ 100,000 to
this effect.
